It's good to be the king...
That is the ideal - however it the situation presented itself, I don't know if I would remember that maxim, or follow Captain Francesco Schettino from the Concordia....:dunno:

(at least I'd have a better excuse than tripping conveniently into a lifeboat, if I pursued the latter...:D)

Really it should be what will maximize in saving the lives as many people as possible in the most efficient manner in a situation like this. Although I can see some special consideration being made for children.

However anybody in a position of authority or responsibility in that situation, like the senior crew and especially the captain of a ship, should really be the last person out in the last reasonable moment that one can stay after everything is done to get as many people out as safe as possible.
